The Fairview Heights Area Food Pantry has been serving the community of Fairview Heights & Hollywood Heights since 1988.
Its creation grew out of a clear need: local churches were receiving increasing requests for food assistance from area residents, signaling that a dedicated community resource was essential.
In response, the Ministerial Alliance of Fairview Heights invited members of their congregations to help shape a new community effort. From this group, a Board of Laymen was selected, and the Fairview Heights Area Food Pantry was officially established.
Christ United Methodist Church offered a building to house the new organization, and volunteers quickly went to work renovating the space. In June 1988, the pantry opened its doors for the first time, committed to serving neighbors facing food insecurity with dignity and care.
Over the years, the pantry moved through a few locations as needs and circumstances changed. In 2016, when another move became necessary, Mark Kupsky, Mayor of Fairview Heights, offered space in the basement of City Hall for just $1.00 per year. Alderman Bill Poletti paid 25 years of rent in advance, ensuring the food pantry could remain in this location well into the future.
What truly sets our pantry apart is the people behind it. Our entire operation is powered by volunteers who give their time, energy, and compassion to ensure that families never face hunger alone. We have no corporate sponsors and no major funding sources — everything we provide comes directly from the generosity of our
community. Thanks to the ongoing support of individual donors, churches, local businesses, civic groups, and service organizations, we can serve our neighbors with dignity and care.
At the Fairview Heights Area Food Pantry, we believe kindness is the foundation of a strong community. No one should face the impossible choice between paying bills and feeding their family. With the support of our neighbors, we’re ensuring that help is here when it’s needed most.
